When IAS training commences at LBSNAA, one of the most memorable moments is taking the solemn oath of service while holding the revered Constitution of India. Each officer is subsequently presented with a signed copy of the Constitution by the Director of LBSNAA, a symbol of duty and allegiance that remains an enduring memory for life

Constitution Day serves as a powerful reminder, not only of that solemn oath but also of the brilliance and legacy of India's Constitution.

Diversity might be a corporate buzzword today, but India aced it 75 years ago with its constitution!

Many might not be knowing but our constitution was “adopted” 2 months earlier on Nov 26 before it came into force on Jan 26 - the day we celebrate as the constitution day

The biggest challenge at the time was addressing the highly complex and diverse Indian society

In Machine learning, there is a concept of the "curse of dimensionality" which simply means high dimension data makes optimization not just complex but exponentially more complex.

In 1947, India, due to its diversity, dealt with such high dimensionality at such a level which was never dealt with before. While most countries find it difficult to reconcile even 2-3 languages, India managed with over 1000 with 22 official languages. Plus, all 7 major religions existed without any one religion being made the official one. Add to it Geographical, historical, Cultural and even economic diversity.

And yet, we managed it well. Diversity might be a corporate buzzword today, but India aced it 75 years ago with its constitution - the longest written constitution in the world.

It took more than 64 lakhs in money and 2 years, 11 months and 11 days in time for preparation of the constitution

The first copies of the Constitution were not printed but handwritten by the generational calligrapher Prem Behari Narain Raizda. On request of JLN he agreed to undertake this monumental task without charging a single penny. His only request was to have his name in history, quite literally actually and his name appeared on every page of the copy!

Today, it all seems so obvious and working of the constitution feels like business as usual. It's ironic but may be one of the biggest achievements of constitutional makers was making its implementation not feel like an achievement!
