I was never an early riser as a kid—dragging myself out of bed felt like a daily battle. But there was one day, one special day, when waking up early was effortless—Independence Day. On this day, I’d leap out of bed, eyes gleaming with anticipation.
What drove me? Was it the promise of laddus or the quiet pull of patriotism? Perhaps it was a bit of both. But what I remember most vividly are the goosebumps, that unmistakable sense of pride, as the flag is hoisted while the national anthem plays softly in the background!
Many might not know that the flag is "hoisted" on Independence Day and "unfurled" on Republic Day . On August 15th, the flag is "hoisted" from the ground up—a powerful symbol of our nation’s rise from the depths of colonial rule to the heights of freedom. On January 26th, the flag is "unfurled" from the top, a graceful reminder of our commitment to the Constitution and the values it enshrines—values that transformed a newly freed land into a thriving republic.
Over the years, my craving for those sweet laddus may have waned, but the sense of pride I feel when I see our flag rise has only grown deeper. It’s a reminder that no matter how many Independence Days pass, the spirit that binds us remains ever strong.
May we always cherish that spirit, today and every day.
🇮🇳 Happy Independence Day!
